Retail Manager with Plants (ref:3945)

Our client are an independently-run garden centre located in the North of Scotland in a rural setting but with very manageable access to train stations and airports. They are seeking a Retail Manager with plant/horticultural knowledge. Responsible for managing the Planteria Department with a small team of plant staff. Responsible for the care of plants, increasing plant sales, increasing footfall to the planteria as well as developing good standards of service and the smooth running of this department.

Off season they will be required to work internally as a retail manager, supervising the weekend staff as well as overseeing the floor operations of our gift shop, kitchen department and sundries department. This role would suit someone seeking a relocation as there is an opportunity for a rental property on site - should it be required.

Our client is a prestigious public garden and trails ground that are looking for an outstanding horticulturist to be a key member of the senior management team and to play an important role in the development and implementation of the objectives as defined in their Strategic Plan and the Garden Master Plan.

They are looking for someone to lead, manage, develop and empower the team to set and deliver high standards in horticulture/support services and customer services using and planning resources to best effect.

The role will be to take:

  • Overall responsibility for a team of approximately 24 employees
  • Responsible for the performance management and development of the team in accordance with HR policies and procedures
  • Outward looking across the institution and the appropriate sectors of the Horticultural Industry
  • Budget approximately £800,000
  • Managing the Glass, Propagation, Seed and Alpine Plants Department. This includes all Public Display, support Glasshouses and propagation unit, the Seed Distribution scheme, the Rock Garden and associated areas, Alpine Houses, the Alpine Meadow, stream beds and Alpine trials.

For this role they are seeking:

  • An outstanding man-manager who can motivate and inspire the team - must be able to give proof of this ability at interview
  • A true horticulturist with a high level general horticultural knowledge and technical horticultural expertise and/or high level knowledge of / and technical expertise in relevant garden support services.
  • Relevant qualification in horticulture or allied subject.
  • Public facing with superb communication skills

Essential:

  • Significant post qualification experience in horticulture or relevant discipline.
  • High level management skills and the capacity to educate and motivate teams of staff.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Desirable:

  • Ability to lead and undertake strategic and operational planning.
  • Salary will be circa £35,000 and accommodation is also available on site

An up and coming Fresh Produce food company is looking at strengthening their team with an sector specialist stock control manager. This role will cover all aspects of stock and logistics with the main elements being:

  • Liaising with service provider in clearing and delivering product from source and/or port to storing facility.
  • Being proactive in notifying all parties relevant to ETA and eventual actual delivery of product to storing facility.
  • Checking all 3rd party invoices relevant to particular cost chain of product been imported.
  • All transport company invoices to be checked as per delivery of each product per end-customer.
  • All clearing and port invoices to be checked as per quoted documents provided prior to start of relevant season.
  • Collating seafreight documents, packing lists, commercial invoices prior to container arrival.
  • Packhouse invoices checked as per W/O numbers and divisional sections as per invoice requirement from to packhouse.
  • Managing daily stock control in terms of quantities.
  • Managing ordering of packaging against perceived customer orders in relation to W/Os
  • Being able to coordinate and synchronize functions within the office
